UK Doctors

Doctor's offices are known for playing music such as jazz, classical, or easy listening tunes in the background to help patients relax. But it seems for the doctors in the UK the benefits of offering their patients a little musical relaxation has to come with a cost.  Any business establishment that plays music in the background is required to pay a license to do so. And in the UK the Performing Rights Society is making sure that the Doctors do just that.  Apparently the PRS is only requiring doctors to pay for music that is played in the waiting room and not in the actual rooms or therapy sessions.

Whew! That is good because I would hate to get sick in the UK and only have the sound of beep beep beep to calm my nerves.

Song of the Day - "Din Da Da" - The Roots

"Din Da Da" - The Roots
Destination: Creative Commons
Genre - Hip Hop

Actually The Roots remade this song and I can not remember for the life of me who originally did it. However, that is not important at this point. What is key is the fact that this song is great for busting through those mental road blocks that appear while on your way to reaching the right side of your brain . The hand claps, free flowing drums, and Din Da Da's will surely give you the fuel to bust through those blocks so you can continue on to your destination.

Music Therapy - A Brief History Lesson

The idea of using music to heal has been around since the beginning of time. But according to the American Music Therapy Association it wasn't until after World War I and II did people start to really acknowledge its benefits.

During those times musicians would play for the veterans in the hospitals.  Doctors began to notice the positive effects the music had on their patients and began hiring musicians to come and play for the veterans on a regular basis.  From there on the demand started to grow and in 1944 Michigan State University created the first music therapy degree program.

Sexual Lyrics and Sexual Activity Study

A new study came out in the August Edition of Pediatrics showing the correlation between sexual lyrics and sexual activity among teens. The study concluded that 51% of teens between the ages of 12 - 17 who listen to sexual lyrics were likely to engage in sexual activity with in 2 years of being exposed to sexual lyrics.

So based on these number is it safe to say that sexual lyrics have a direct impact on sexual activity? Well, we are not sure about that because there are so many other factors out there that can convince a teenage boy or girl to engage in sexual activity.

What we do know is that music is a powerful tool and can be used to influence many.  What is your take?

Review the study for yourself here
